The Directorate of Research of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, plays a pivotal role in advancing agricultural research and innovation to address the evolving needs of farmers in Karnataka. Agriculture in the state is largely dominated by small and marginal farmers with limited landholdings. Enhancing productivity and profitability for this farming community remains a major priority in achieving sustainable agricultural growth and improving rural livelihoods.
The Directorate focuses on generating cutting-edge farm technologies aimed at transforming agriculture into a profitable and resilient enterprise. Through scientific research and technology development, the University strives to meet the growing demand for food while ensuring environmental sustainability and the efficient use of agricultural resources.
The University coordinates location-specific, strategic, and anticipatory research programmes through the following Agricultural Research Stations, All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRPs), and other research units spread across different agro-climatic zones (4, 6, 7, and 9) located in five southern districts of Karnataka.
These research initiatives are designed to address region-specific challenges faced by farmers, improve their standard of living, and strengthen food security through enhanced productivity and resource-use efficiency.
The Directorate also emphasizes the development and adaptation of improved crop varieties, hybrids, and innovative production technologies. These advancements contribute to strengthening farmers’ cropping systems by increasing yields, improving resilience to drought, enhancing resistance to pests and diseases, and creating opportunities for better market access and increased farm income.
To undertake impactful basic and applied research that enhances farmers’ livelihood security, promotes sustainable agriculture, and drives rural prosperity through innovative, need-based, and location-specific agricultural technologies.
To be a leading agricultural research institution fostering sustainable and resilient farming systems by developing innovative, farmer-centric, and region-specific technologies for improved livelihoods and agricultural prosperity.
