My research interests focus on crop improvement through the development of drought-tolerant and climate-resilient varieties using both conventional and molecular breeding approaches. I aim to integrate advanced molecular tools with traditional plant breeding techniques to enhance the efficiency, precision, and speed of varietal development under changing climatic conditions. My work emphasizes the application of molecular markers and marker-assisted breeding strategies to facilitate the identification and selection of desirable genotypes with improved stress tolerance and productivity. I have expertise in the systematic screening and evaluation of germplasm lines to identify sources of drought tolerance for use in crop improvement programs. My experience includes the use of DNA fingerprinting techniques for assessing genetic diversity and characterizing germplasm accessions. I am also involved in DNA marker-based selection of elite genotypes through marker-assisted selection to accelerate breeding efficiency. My research activities include breeding for drought tolerance in important crops such as maize, Finger millet and Green gram. In addition, I am working on the development of Sorghum Downy Mildew resistant lines in Maize. These research efforts contribute toward the development of improved, climate-resilient crop varieties for sustainable agricultural production.
