My research interests and expertise focus on crop improvement in finger millet through conventional breeding and mutation breeding approaches aimed at enhancing yield and yield-contributing traits such as finger length, number of fingers, number of whorls, and number of tillers, along with grain quality improvement for higher iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and magnesium (Mg) content. My work also emphasizes the development of nutritionally enriched and high-yielding genotypes to support food and nutritional security. In addition, I am engaged in the application of bioinformatics and molecular biology tools, including molecular markers, for the genetic and genomic characterization of millets. This includes studying trait-linked markers and understanding the molecular basis of resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses such as drought tolerance and disease resistance. My research integrates classical breeding with modern genomic approaches to accelerate the development of climate-resilient, nutrient-dense millet varieties suited to sustainable agriculture and marginal environments.
