Research Interests & Expertise

My work encompasses diverse areas including melissopalynology, honeybee pollination, TSBV disease in Indian honeybees, natural enemies of bees, bee colony division techniques, conservation of wild bees, and the management and multiplication of stingless bee colonies. For the past 25 years, I have been actively engaged in teaching, research, and outreach activities related to bees and beekeeping. I have also explored innovative approaches such as using honeybees as live fencing to deter elephants and enhancing bee forage resources. I have led several extension projects, notably for the revival of beekeeping and forage development in Kodagu district and have trained numerous farmers in apiculture. In addition to apiculture, I teach forest entomology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and have guided 10 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D. students in research on forest insect pests. I have handled 12 research projects and manage a revolving fund on apiculture, which supports training programs and provides essential beekeeping equipment and bee colonies to novice beekeepers. Select colonies with desirable traits are maintained for large-scale multiplication. I also completed a specialized three-week trainers’ training program on beehive products and pollination in Israel, further strengthening my expertise in this field.
