Forestry Degree program was started in 1985 at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru in Bengaluru campus. Later in 1994, the degree program was shifted to the College of Forestry, Ponnampet. In the year 2012, the college was in administrative control of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga (UAHS). In the year 2022, UAHS, Shivamogga was renamed as Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga. Presently the College is governed by University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya. Ponnampet is the taluk head quarter in Kodagu district of Karnataka state. it is around 220 km from Bengaluru, 90 km from Mysore and 130 km from University HQ - UAS, Mandya
College of Forestry, Ponnampet has come a long way since its humble beginning in 1985. The college is now accredited as one of the five best forestry colleges in the country by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun. This was possible due to the dedication of TEAM – Forestry (Together Everybody Achieves More) consisting of teachers, non-teaching staff, students, alumni and farmers. The support extended by our university, state government, central government and collaborative research partners from within and outside the country has helped it to grow and achieve national and international recognition. The college is one of the most sought-after professional courses in the country. Our alumni are pursuing their carrier in Indian Forest Service (IFS), State Forests Services, forest department and as researchers in various national and international institutions, private companies, NGOs and as entrepreneurs have made us proud by bringing in new innovations in the sustainable management of forest resources of our nation.
The TEAM -Forestry is on a continuous up gradation along ICAR curriculum to meet the current global dynamic challenges by acquiring the required skills and knowledge through research, conducting and attending seminars, workshops, interactive programmes to train the young men and women for newer opportunities in blending the needs of the changing economic and ecological dynamism for the welfare of mankind.
